I Initially recorded the ascending guitar riff and then copy and pasted and copy and pasted it some more! After playing around with it, I layered another guitar track that was more or less improvisation (nothing was truly ever finalized). Finally I set up a keyboard and layered a third track, the drum track, which was recorded in real time, not arranged with software. however, I later used software for editing it (i.e. volume swells, etc.).
